Job summary

Department of Justice and Community Safety, Victoria manages Tobacco Licensing Victoria (TLV) under the Tobacco Act 1987. The team leader will oversee a team ensuring tobacco businesses comply with laws, guide staff through inspections, investigations and legal actions, and collaborate with law enforcement and agencies.

The role is fixed-term until 30 June 2028, full-time, with salary range AU$116,413–$140,849 per year plus super. Victorian driver licence is required.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex or sensitive compliance work or investigations.
• Sound knowledge of laws, evidence and court processes.
• Clear communication skills to handle difficult talks and resolve complaints.
• Proven leadership skills to guide staff and build an inclusive team.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team that checks tobacco businesses follow Victorian laws.
• Guide inspections and investigations, including complex cases and search warrants.
• Check evidence and reports to support legal action against breaches.
• Build strong working ties with police, councils and other government agencies.
• Improve work processes and manage risks while staff grow their skills.
