Job summary

Halcyon Knights in Melbourne is seeking a hands-on System Engineer to support a new rollout of our retail commerce platform. You will build environments, connect stores and drive the rollout from pilot through hypercare in a hybrid work setup.

You'll work across Windows and Linux servers, configure POS hardware, integrate with back-end systems and payments, and implement automation with CI/CD and IaC. Strong customer-facing skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Windows and Linux server administration experience is required.
• Retail POS, store infrastructure or peripheral experience is essential.
• Azure or AWS experience with solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, firewalls).
• Scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python; familiarity with CI/CD and IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• SQL Server or PostgreSQL fundamentals.
• Comfortable working directly with customers.

Responsibilities

Our client is a leading global provider of retail point-of-sale technology, supplying the hardware and software behind checkouts in major retailers. Their Melbourne Professional Services team is standing up a new rollout of their retail commerce platform for a customer, and needs a hands-on engineer to make it happen.

You'll build the environments, get stores connected and support the rollout through pilot and hypercare.

What you'll be doing

• Building application, database and infrastructure environments across dev, test, pilot and production
• Getting in-store POS hardware, peripherals, OS images and store networks ready for rollout
• Connecting the platform to back-end systems, payments and third-party services
• Automating builds and deployments so the rollout scales across stores
• Setting up monitoring and providing L2/L3 support through pilot and hypercare
• Keeping environments hardened, patched and PCI-aligned, with clear runbooks for handover
