Job summary

Scenic World is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join our IT team onsite in the Blue Mountains, Katoomba. You will engineer, secure and continually improve our core platforms, ensuring uptime and resilience for a 7‑day operation and guest experiences.

Reporting to the Head of IT, you’ll manage Microsoft 365, Entra ID and security controls, align roadmaps with business needs, and collaborate with IT teams across the group.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience engineering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments.
  • Design, secure and continually improve identity and endpoint platforms.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and security controls.
  • Experience in environments where uptime and security impact business outcomes.
  • Exposure to security frameworks such as Essential 8 or ISO 27001.
  • Experience in hybrid AD environments, backup and DR engineering.
  • Relevant Microsoft, security or infrastructure certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer and improve core platforms including Microsoft 365, Entra ID and security controls.
  • Design systems that are secure by default, resilient and aligned to operations.
  • Manage identity & access controls, including guest and cross‑tenant access where applicable.
  • Implement security controls aligned to recognised frameworks (Essential 8, ISO 27001).
  • Analyse vulnerabilities and engineer remediation strategies.
  • Act as a key contributor during security incidents and post‑incident improvements.
  • Support network environments for corporate users, operations and guest connectivity.
  • Develop standards, system documentation and runbooks; assist with audits.
  • Collaborate with IT teams across group businesses on initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative work culture and ongoing development.

Scenic World is seeking an experienced Systems Administrator to join our IT team, working onsite in the beautiful Blue Mountains. This is an opportunity to combine a technically challenging role with a change of scenery, working from our iconic Katoomba location.

You will play a critical role in the engineering, security and continuous evolution of our core technology platforms. This is a hands‑on, technically deep position suited to someone who enjoys designing robust systems, strengthening security and ensuring technology enables great frontline and guest experiences.

Operating within a 7-day, revenue‑critical attraction environment, this role goes beyond day‑to‑day systems administration. You will be accountable for how our systems are designed, integrated, secured and improved over time, ensuring our technology environment remains resilient, scalable and practical for our operations.

Job Description

Reporting to the Head of IT, the Systems Administrator is responsible for engineering & continuously improving Scenic World’s core platforms, infrastructure, identity services & security controls. You will work closely with stakeholders across the business & IT teams within the broader group to ensure systems support operational uptime, security & future growth.

Key focus areas include Microsoft 365, identity & access management, endpoint security, networking, backup & disaster recovery & security framework alignment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineer, manage, and continuously improve core technology platforms including:
    • Microsoft 365 (Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams)
    • Endpoint management, patching, and device security
    • Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
  • Design systems that are secure by default, resilient, and aligned to operational realities.
  • Engineer and maintain identity and access controls, including:
    • User lifecycle automation
    • Privileged access models
    • Guest and cross‑tenant access (where applicable)
  • Design and implement security controls aligned to recognised frameworks (e.g. Essential 8, ISO 27001).
  • Analyse vulnerabilities and engineer remediation strategies.
  • Act as a key contributor during security incidents, investigations, and post‑incident improvements.
  • Engineer and support network environments for:
    • Corporate users
    • Operational systems (POS, CCTV, access control)
    • Guest and event connectivity
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, system documentation, and runbooks.
  • Support audits through strong system design, documentation, and evidence.
  • Assist the Head of IT with software & hardware roadmaps aligned to business needs and asset renewal.
  • Collaborate with IT teams across group businesses and support group‑level IT initiatives as required.
  • Actively contribute to a positive, collaborative work culture.
  • Participate in ongoing technical, cultural, and business development.
Desired Skills and Experience
About You

You are a confident Systems Administrator who enjoys designing, improving and evolving platforms, rather than simply maintaining them. You bring a security‑first mindset, strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work effectively across complex and evolving environments.

Essential experience & skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong hands‑on experience engineering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID environments.
  • Proven ability to design, secure and continually improve identity and endpoint platforms.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts and security controls.
  • Experience working in environments where uptime and security have a direct business impact.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in hospitality, attractions, retail or other operationally intensive environments.
  • Exposure to security frameworks such as Essential 8 or ISO 27001.
  • Experience in hybrid AD environments.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery and incident response engineering.
  • Relevant Microsoft, security or infrastructure certifications.
