Job summary

The Elexon Group of Companies – Brendale QLD is seeking a Surface Mount Operator to drive our automated SMT production line. You will operate advanced surface mount machinery to ensure PCBs meet high quality and precision standards.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Kitting for new jobs and booking new parts to the SMD system.

• Basic machine troubleshooting and process optimization.
• Routine maintenance and checks for optimal performance.
• Collaborate with the Surface Mount team to deliver high-quality products on schedule.
• SMD inspection of in-process manufacturing.

Job Summary:

Our fully automated Surface Mount Device (SMD) production line is the heart of our manufacturing operations. As a Surface Mount Operator, you will play a key role in driving this process—operating advanced surface mount machinery to ensure our printed circuit boards (PCBs) meet the highest standards of quality and precision.

We’re looking for candidates with hands‑on experience in electronics assembly, have prior exposure to manufacturing environments and who are eager to grow their technical skills. This role offers a strong pathway for upskilling, with opportunities to expand your capabilities across modern electronics production processes.

In this role, you'll be responsible not only for machine operation but also for maintaining equipment performance, optimising processes, and supporting the timely delivery of products. Your keen eye for detail and dedication to excellence will be critical in achieving production targets and consistently exceeding customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Kitting for new jobs and booking new parts to the SMD system
• Setup & operate a variety of surface mount machines; including Stencil Printing, Jet Printing, Pick & Place, Vapour Phase and Reflow Ovens.
• Basic machine trouble shooting and process optimization
• Perform routine checks and maintenance on machines to ensure optimal performance
• Work as part of the team of Surface Mount operators and technicians at Elexon to deliver the highest quality products in a timely fashion
• SMD inspection of in-process manufacturing and a keen eye for quality
• Other tasks as directed by the Team Leader or Manufacturing Manager

Qualifications and Experience:

• Minimum 1-2 years of electronics manufacturing experience required
• Familiarity with a variety of electronics components
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• High degree of self‑motivation and ability to work independently
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and keenness to learn
• Experience in operating complex machinery, ideally SMT (Surface Mount Technology) machines
• Proficient SMT operator experience with demonstrated competency in surface mount technology machines
• CAD software packages (Altium)
• Familiarity with Mycronic equipment
• LEAN Manufacturing methodology
