Job summary

The Elexon Group of Companies in Brendale, QLD, seeks an Electronic Engineering Team Lead to guide a multi-disciplinary team across electronics, firmware, and mechanical design. You’ll drive evolution of low-power, high-reliability in-ground products while collaborating with Production and Client Services.

This is a hands-on leadership role demanding ownership of team output, mentoring, and direct involvement in design, prototyping, and problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent).
• Strong leadership or managerial experience within an engineering team.
• 3+ years of professional Electronics Design Engineer experience.
• Proficiency with schematics and PCB layout.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Project manage engineering projects including scope, budget, resources and reporting.
• Deliver projects on time, on budget and to agreed quality.
• Plan and manage EOL issues to avoid stockouts.
• Coordinate with production to address issues promptly.

Elexon Mining designs and manufactures rugged, in-ground wireless monitoring solutions. Our products are deployed in demanding mining environments—often deep underground inside boreholes—requiring ultra-robust mechanical, electronic, and software engineering. Your work will directly improve safety, sustainability, and efficiency in global mining operations.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Electronic Engineering Team Lead to lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for our Geo4Sight and Cave Tracker product groups, spanning electronics, firmware, and mechanical design. You’ll drive the evolution of our established low-power, high-reliability in-ground product suite while working closely with Production and Client Services.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role, suited to an experienced electronics engineer who is ready to take ownership of a team as well as its technical output—setting priorities, mentoring engineers, and staying personally involved in design, prototyping, and problem solving.

Location requirement

We need regular on-site presence due to the hands-on nature of embedded electronics systems development. We are in Brendale (north of Brisbane).

What You'll Be Doing

As Team Lead, you'll be accountable for:

• Project managing engineering projects, including scope, budget, resources, execution, monitoring, and reporting.
• Delivering projects to an agreed plan, on time, on budget, and to the agreed quality.
• Planning, prioritising, and managing projects so that any issues with parts becoming End of Life are addressed well ahead of stock running out.
• Keeping the team attentive and responsive to production's needs, so issues raised by production are resolved in a timely manner.

This covers two broad areas:

Team leadership and management

• Providing team leadership and regular 1:1s with team members.
• Direct management of team members, including setting goals, performance reviews, and mentoring.
• Providing technical leadership and guidance.
• Implementing design updates, including reviewing, prototyping, and testing low-power electronic designs with RF circuits, microcontroller, and MEMS sensors.
• Developing and maintaining embedded software in C/C++ for long-life, battery-powered systems.
• Developing new and supporting existing automated test equipment (ATE), test jigs & fixtures and software.

What We Are Looking For - Essential experience & skills

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronics Engineering (or equivalent experience).
• Team leadership or managerial experience, including mentoring, planning, or guiding technical work within an engineering team.
• 3+ years of professional experience as an Electronics Design Engineer.
• Proficiency with schematics and PCB layout.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
