Job summary

Allegro Services in Caringbah, Sydney's Sutherland Shire, is seeking an SMT Technician/Programmer to join our production team. You will be responsible for programming, setting up and operating our SMT line and AOI inspection equipment, with a focus on accuracy, reliability and hands-on ownership of the equipment.

Experience in SMT manufacturing is ideal, but a strong electronics/technical background and quick learning ability are equally valued.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify SMT production programs.

• Read PCB assembly docs, BOMs and component information.
• Inspect assembled PCBs and interpret AOI results.

Job description

SMT Technician / Programmer – Electronics Manufacturing

Allegro Services is an established Australian-owned electronics contract manufacturer based in Caringbah in Sydney's Sutherland Shire.

We are looking for a technically minded and reliable person to join our production team, with a primary focus on programming, setting up and operating our SMT production line and AOI inspection equipment.

This position would suit either an experienced SMT technician/operator or someone with a strong electronics and computer/technical background who has the aptitude and enthusiasm to learn.

Previous experience with our particular equipment is not essential. We are looking for someone with strong technical ability, attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to learn and take ownership of the equipment they operate.

Key responsibilities:

• Creating and modifying SMT production programs
• Programming, setting up and operating the JUKI RS-1 pick-and-place machine
• Setting up and operating the GKG solder paste printer
• Operating the Asscon vapour phase reflow system
• Programming and operating the Koh Young AOI system
• SMT component and feeder setup
• Product changeovers and production setup
• Monitoring production quality and identifying process issues
• Troubleshooting machine, programming and production problems
• Inspecting assembled PCBs and interpreting AOI results
• Reading and working from PCB assembly documentation, BOMs and component information
• Assisting with other electronics production activities when required

About you

Ideally, you will have experience in SMT electronics manufacturing, automated production equipment, electronics or another relevant technical field.

However, we are also interested in applicants who may not have extensive SMT experience but can demonstrate strong technical ability and the capacity to learn complex equipment quickly.

You may have a background in electronics, computers, programming, automation, mechatronics, machine operation or electronics repair.

We are particularly interested in someone who:

• Has strong computer and technical aptitude
• Enjoys learning and understanding how equipment works
• Has good logical and problem-solving skills
• Is comfortable learning new software and machine programming
• Has excellent attention to detail
• Can troubleshoot problems rather than simply operate equipment
• Takes pride in producing high-quality work
• Can work independently once trained
• Is reliable, organised and works well as part of a small production team

Previous experience with SMT equipment, pick-and-place programming, AOI programming, PCB assembly or electronics manufacturing will be highly regarded.

Experience with JUKI, Koh Young, GKG or Asscon equipment would be advantageous but is not essential.

• $32–$37 per hour + superannuation, depending on experience and capability
