Job summary

Women's Community Shelters is seeking a Support Worker to join the Homewards Transitional Housing program at Beecroft House. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support vulnerable women with immediate needs and connections to services.

The role requires a trauma-informed, person-centered approach, strong communication and the ability to maintain professional boundaries. You will help create a safe, welcoming environment and support residents through programs and activities.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Community Services or currently studying social work or a related qualification.
• Understanding of community services and trauma-informed, person-centered practice.
• Ability to manage professional boundaries while working with vulnerable clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard software systems.
• Ability to obtain Working With Children Check and National Police Check.
• First aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one.
• Experience supporting victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Responsibilities

• Provide front-of-house support to residents and assist with immediate housing needs.
• Work within a trauma-informed, person-centered framework to support safety and empowerment of women.
• Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming service environment, including preparing resident rooms for service access.
• Support participation in programs and group activities addressing residents' social support, education and health needs.
• Maintain accurate client records and complete reporting within required timeframes.
• Build positive relationships with residents, colleagues, partner organisations and the broader WCS network.
• Support culturally safe and inclusive service delivery for First Nations peoples and diverse communities.

Working within a trauma-informed, person-centered framework, you will help create a safe, welcoming and positive environment while supporting residents with immediate needs and connection to services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide warm, respectful front-of-house support to residents and assist with immediate housing and support needs.
• Work within a person-centered, trauma-informed framework to support safety, connection and empowerment of women.
• Help maintain a clean, safe and welcoming service environment, including preparing resident rooms for service access.
• Support participation in programs and group activities that respond to residents' social support, education and health needs.
• Maintain accurate client records and complete reporting and administrative tasks within required timeframes.
• Build positive relationships with residents, colleagues, partner organisations and the broader WCS network.
• Support culturally safe and inclusive service delivery for First Nations peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities and LGBTQIA+ communities.

About you

• Minimum Certificate IV in Community Services or currently working towards a qualification in social work or similar.
• Understanding of community services and trauma-informed, person-centered practice.
• Ability to manage professional boundaries and work respectfully with vulnerable clients.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and software systems.
• Ability to obtain satisfactory mandatory compliance checks, including Working With Children Check and National Police Check.
• Recognised first aid qualification, or willingness to obtain one before appointment.
• Experience working with victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.
