Job summary

Northcott is seeking a Support Worker to join our not-for-profit disability service team in NSW. The role supports people with disability in day programs, helping them live as independently as possible and stay connected to their community.

The position offers permanent part-time or casual shifts, with a 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM roster that fits around study or family commitments. You will work closely with clinical teams, families, and peers to deliver person-centered care and positive behaviour

Qualifications

• Experience in disability support or care is preferred.
• Ability to follow individual care plans and health needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate group activities (art, music, drama, gardening).
• Assist with manual handling using hoists and transfer aids for safety.
• Provide community access and social inclusion activities, including driving a wheelchair-accessible van.
• Work a flexible rotating roster from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM; may include weekend shifts.
• Collaborate with clinical teams, families and peers to deliver positive behaviour support.
• Follow individual care plans for health needs like epilepsy or wound care.
• Assist with mealtime support and adhere to mealtime management plans.
• Support personal care with a focus on dignity and independence.
• Encourage daily living skills and independence.

What I Will Be Doing:

As a Support Worker at Northcott, I'll be working in a day program setting, where my role is to help customers live as independently and confidently as possible. I'll support them in building daily living skills, staying healthy and safe, and keeping connected to their community.

• I'll facilitate fun and engaging group activities , including art , music , drama , and gardening.
• I'll assist with manual handling, using equipment like hoists and transfer aids to ensure safety and comfort.
• I'll provide community access, promoting social inclusion and organising everyday outings. Plus, I'll be happy to drive a wheelchair-accessible van to get people where they need to go.
• I'll work a flexible rotating roster from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with the possibility of weekend shifts—perfect for balancing life outside of work!
• I'll collaborate closely with clinical teams, families, and peers to deliver positive behaviour support strategies, making sure every person feels respected, understood, and empowered.
• I'll follow individual care plans to support specific health needs like epilepsy and wound care.
• I'll assist with mealtime support, making sure customers receive meals according to mealtime management plans.
• I'll help with personal care, always ensuring dignity and independence are at the forefront.
• I'll encourage and support daily living skills, empowering customers to grow in confidence and independence.
