Superintendent - Technical Services | Mine Planning

Competitive package + short- term incentives

Liontown Limited (ASX: LTR) is an ASX-listed company with a focus on battery minerals. We aim to be an ESG leader in the resources sector and a globally significant provider of battery minerals for the rapidly growing clean energy market. We do this by finding, developing and supplying the battery minerals required by the electric vehicle and energy storage industries.

We control two major lithium deposits in Western Australia and have ambitions to grow our portfolio through downstream expansion and exploration acquisitions.

Our flagship Kathleen Valley Lithium Operation is a Tier-1 hard-rock lithium asset, recognised for its scale, grade and longevity. Now ramping up underground production, Kathleen Valley is one of the most significant new lithium operations globally and is central to our long-term growth strategy.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Technical Services Superintendent (Mine Planning Superintendent) to lead our underground technical services team at Kathleen Valley. Reporting to the Underground Manager, you will lead mine planning, ventilation and scheduling, and manage the interface with our survey and geology teams.

This is a full-time, permanent position based on site at Kathleen Valley, on an 8:6, 4:3 roster, FIFO from Perth.

This is a key leadership role during the underground ramp-up. You will directly influence safety, productivity and long-term value, and lead a multidisciplinary team that is focused on rigorous planning, efficient execution and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, surveyors, planners and technical officers
  • Oversee mine design, medium-term planning and scheduling, so that quarterly and budget schedules are achievable, resourced and aligned with business objectives
  • Provide technical guidance to Operations, so that plans are executable and risks are controlled before implementation
  • Work with Operations, Survey and Geology to resolve production issues, leading root-cause analysis of dilution, overbreak, underbreak and cycle-time losses
  • Oversee ground support and ventilation design, and maintain QA/QC (quality assurance and quality control) across technical outputs
  • Ensure engineering outputs comply with mining legislation, codes of practice and our internal governance, including statutory reporting and engineering sign-offs
  • Lead end-of-month reconciliation with other teams
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost efficiency
  • Manage relationships with consultants, contractors and regulators
  • Lead safety performance through visible leadership, and model our values of Safety, Sustainability, Sense of Team, Respect, Ambition and Integrity.

About you

You will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, or a related discipline such as Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Surveying
  • Substantial experience in underground hard-rock mining, including senior technical roles
  • Significant experience in short-, medium- and long-term mine planning
  • Experience integrating geotechnical, geological, survey and ventilation inputs into mine designs
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Strong record in statutory reporting, compliance and engineering governance
  • High proficiency in mine planning and modelling software, such as Deswik and VentSim
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a high level of safety leadership
  • Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screen.

The following are highly regarded:

  • First Class Mine Manager's Certificate (WA)
  • Ventilation modelling training (VentSim or equivalent)
  • Incident Cause Analysis Method (ICAM) or equivalent incident investigation training
  • Membership of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) or Engineers Australia.
