Job summary

Jack Engineering in Hastings, Victoria, is seeking a Structural Steel Estimator to join our Projects team. The role focuses on material take offs, pricing from tenders, and preparing detailed quotations for residential and commercial structural steel projects within a family-owned business.

You will read engineering drawings and architectural plans, liaise with suppliers for quotes, and manage document control while meeting tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience in material take offs from tender documents and pricing for fabrication and installation hours, materials, and coatings.
• Ability to prepare detailed estimate/quotation documents for clients.
• Familiarity with tender reviews, addendums, variations and change orders.

• Liaise with builders during the tender process to confirm work scopes and handle RFIs.

Our core business is in fabrication and erection of structural steel, and we are currently have a position available for a Structural Steel Estimator to join our dedicated Projects team based in Hastings.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Material take offs and pricing from tender documents (including estimation of fabrication and installation hours, materials, installation machinery, and coatings).
• Preparing detailed and accurate estimate/quotation documents issued to our clients.
• Tender reviews and addendums, including variations and change orders.
• Working with suppliers to obtain relevant quotations.
• Management of document control processes across our various systems including Dropbox and Salesforce.
• Liaising with builders during the tender process, to ensure confirmation of work scopes, and managing requests for information and various clarifications.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous residential and commercial construction estimating experience, ideally specialising in structural steel.
• Knowledge of structural steel fabrication including member profiles, welding specs, connection details, column footings, coating systems and fastener specs.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and architectural plans in conjunction with each other.
• Relevant software and computer experience (Bluebeam or similar, Dropbox, Microsoft Excel).
• Trade or Degree qualification in Civil / Structural Engineering, or Drafting, highly regarded.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-orientated and organised approach to work.
• Strong organisational skills, with an ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
• Self motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.
