Job summary

Australian Government Department of Education in Canberra is seeking an experienced Executive Level 1 professional to lead the Treasury unit. The role focuses on day-to-day treasury operations, financial reporting, and providing expert advice to support decision-making.

You will oversee appropriations management, cash forecasting, reconciliations, and system enhancements while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring compliance with Government policies.

Qualifications

• Citizenship: Australian Citizen or in the process of obtaining it.
• Security Clearance: Baseline security clearance or ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Treasury unit.
• Manage the department's appropriation management function, including daily drawdowns, cash forecasting and banking.
• Perform monthly reconciliations, clearings, and reviews of relevant general ledger accounts.
• Provide high-level specialist advice on treasury, revenue, tax, receipting and reconciliation issues.
• Promote continuous improvement of team processes to be compliant with legislation and Government policies.
• Identify system improvements and liaise with the systems area for enhancements.
• Contribute to annual financial statements and prepare high-quality appropriation reconciliations and workpapers.
• Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Department of Finance and the Australian National Audit Office.
• Provide advice to the Director and stakeholders on treasury matters, risks and operational issues.
• Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, controls and compliance.
• Oversee treasury systems and processes (e.g. CBMS, RBANet, SAP or FMIS) and identify optimisation opportunities.
• Ensure timely Treasury communications and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
• Develop and maintain clear process documentation and operational guidance.
• Build and sustain effective working relationships to influence outcomes.
