Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Treasury unit.
  • Manage the department's appropriation management function, including daily drawdowns, cash forecasting and banking.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations, clearings, and reviews of relevant general ledger accounts.
  • Provide high-level specialist advice on treasury, revenue, tax, receipting and reconciliation issues.
  • Promote continuous improvement of team processes to be compliant with legislation and Government policies.
  • Identify system improvements and liaise with the systems area for enhancements.
  • Contribute to annual financial statements and prepare high-quality appropriation reconciliations and workpapers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Department of Finance and the Australian National Audit Office.
  • Provide advice to the Director and stakeholders on treasury matters, risks and operational issues.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, controls and compliance.
  • Oversee treasury systems and processes (e.g. CBMS, RBANet, SAP or FMIS) and identify optimisation opportunities.
  • Ensure timely Treasury communications and respond to stakeholder enquiries.
  • Develop and maintain clear process documentation and operational guidance.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships to influence outcomes.

The Role

The Assistant Director, Treasury plays a key leadership role in delivering the department's treasury functions within a complex financial environment.

Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting and Treasury, the role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day treasury operations while ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial transactions. The position exercises sound judgement by applying the Commonwealth financial framework and provides expert advice to support decision-making.

The role also contributes to strengthening financial management practices, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and supporting the Director in delivering strategic treasury outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities

In this role, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the Treasury unit.

  • Manage monthly reconciliations, clearing accounts, undertake monthly review of relevant general ledger accounts.
  • Provide high level specialist advice to the wider Departmental network on treasury, revenue, tax, receipting and reconciliation issues.
  • Promote the continuous improvement of team processes and ensure they are compliant with relevant legislation and Government policies.
  • Identify system improvements within the unit and liaise with the systems area to assist in implementation of system enhancements.
  • Contributing to the department's annual financial statements, including preparation of the high quality and comprehensive appropriation reconciliations and workpapers.
  • Maintaining professional working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the Department of Finance and the Australian National Audit Office.
  • Provide high-quality advice to the Director and stakeholders on treasury matters, financial risks and operational issues.
  • Lead and coordinate process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, internal controls and compliance outcomes.
  • Maintain oversight of treasury systems and processes (e.g. CBMS, RBANet, SAP or similar FMIS), including identifying opportunities for optimisation.
  • Ensure accurate and timely management of Treasury communications, including shared mailboxes and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Develop and maintain clear, fit-for-purpose process documentation and operational guidance
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing outcomes where required.

Eligibility
