Job summary

The Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is seeking expressions of interest for the Independent Chair of its Academic Council for a 12-month term. The Chair will provide strategic leadership and governance of the Council, guiding academic plans, industry engagement, quality assurance and regulatory compliance.

We value extensive governance experience in tertiary education, strong regulatory knowledge, and the ability to lead with independence while collaborating with diverse stakeholders

Qualifications

• Extensive governance and leadership experience in tertiary education, especially VET.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, quality assurance and governance.
• Strategic leadership with analytical and decision-making capabilities.
• Experience engaging with education regulators such as ASQA and TEQSA.
• Ability to provide independent, informed advice and foster discussion among stakeholders.
• Commitment to educational excellence, student outcomes and industry engagement.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and governance of the Academic Council as Chair.
• Oversee academic plans, industry engagement and curriculum relevance.
• Ensure compliance with national standards and relevant legislation.
• Contribute to education policy development and quality improvement.
• Lead curriculum design across senior secondary, VET and higher ed.
• Monitor educator qualifications, capability and professional development.
