Job summary

Blackburn High School in Melbourne is seeking an experienced Leading Teacher to drive school improvement through strong leadership of STEM initiatives for Years 7–12. The role focuses on improving teaching practice, curriculum development and staff performance across the school.

You will coordinate science and technology teams, mentor staff, and contribute to policy development while aligning with the department's values and child-safe standards.

Qualifications

• Expert knowledge of the Victorian curriculum.
• Ability to lead school priorities and the teaching of literacy and numeracy across the curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to plan high impact teaching strategies that respond to student learning needs.
• Demonstrated ability to monitor and assess student learning and use data to inform improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop innovations within STEM to improve outcomes for students in Years 7–12.
• Provide expert advice about content, processes and strategies for professional learning.
• Lead the Science and Technology Teams and coordinate staff to ensure effective collaboration.
• Develop a whole-school STEM approach and budget planning for delivery.
• Model whole-school improvements in critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.
• Mentor staff through the school’s observational model and provide feedback.
• Ensure curriculum documentation is prepared and accessible to staff, students and parents.
• Work with Laboratory Technicians to ensure compliant science programs.
