Job summary

REA Group is seeking a Staff Security Engineer to own the detection-engineering capability within our bespoke detection platform in Australia. You will shape standards, drive technical direction, and collaborate with Product, Platform and Engineering to prioritise work with deep expertise in detections, testing and response automation.

You’ll lead cross-team initiatives, configure data flows, and develop high-fidelity detections while shaping logging and monitoring for new systems.

Qualifications

• Experience defining detection engineering architectures and standards across multiple platforms.
• Ability to translate cloud/app architectures into detection and response requirements.
• Proficiency in log analysis, scripting and query languages to investigate security events.

Responsibilities

• Lead long-term cross-team initiatives to strengthen detection and response capabilities.
• Configure and operate the detection platform, data flows, and alerting.
• Define detection patterns and validate high-fidelity detections and correlation logic.
• Build automated pipelines and quality gates to protect against configuration drift and gaps.
• Investigate security alerts and coordinate containment with incident response teams.
• Produce and automate response playbooks for rapid containment.
• Mentor team members and share knowledge through reviews and internal forums.
