Job summary

REA Group is seeking a Senior Security Engineer in Detection & Response to modernise detection capability, operating data flows, telemetry integrations and detection workflows with AI-assisted tooling. You will evaluate threat intelligence, investigate suspicious activity, coordinate containment, and work with engineering teams to ensure logging, monitoring, and detection coverage across our environment.

This role offers Melbourne, Sydney or remote options within Australia.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience configuring data flows, log forwarding, data transformation, API integrations, and observability pipelines.
• Experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) including logging, monitoring and security controls.
• Ability to define threats and behaviors to detect and to review, tune and validate high-fidelity detections.
• Strong log analysis skills with scripting to support security automation and SOAR workflows.
• Familiarity with security observability tooling (EDR, SIEM, CNAPP, SOAR, identity platforms).
• Understanding MITRE ATT&CK and translating threat intelligence into detections.
• DevOps familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated security tooling.

Responsibilities

• Configure and operate data flows supporting the detection platform across logs, forwarding, transformation, and cost optimisation.
• Define threats and detections, review, tune, and validate high-fidelity detections and correlations.
• Develop and maintain automated detection testing to identify drift and coverage gaps.
• Analyse security events and logs to identify malicious activity and emerging techniques.
• Assess threat intelligence and translate findings into improved coverage and signal quality.
• Investigate alerts, coordinate containment and communicate risks to stakeholders.
• Develop incident response playbooks and automation workflows for rapid containment.
• Collaborate with product, platform and engineering teams to ensure logging and detection coverage.
• Share knowledge and contribute to documentation and best practices.
