Job summary

Bankwest Technology is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to shape a modern data platform built around Snowflake, dbt, GitHub Actions and AWS. You’ll lead hands-on delivery, mentor teams, and influence engineering direction while solving complex data challenges.

You will own end-to-end data assets, drive automated delivery, ensure data quality, and partner with product, analytics and data science teams to deliver high-value use cases.

Qualifications

• You bring strong data engineering foundations and can translate business requirements into scalable data products.
• Experience migrating on-premises platforms to cloud environments is highly valued.
• Ability to design and implement reliable, scalable data pipelines with good test coverage.
• Experience delivering data solutions aligned to core data design, preparation, transformation, and load concepts.
• Hands-on experience with transformation and engineering tools and modern distributed data platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate scalable data pipelines and reusable data products across distributed data platforms.
• Apply strong data modelling, transformation and integration practices to ensure data reliability and governance.
• Take end-to-end ownership of data assets in production, including testing, monitoring and incident resolution.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, data science and business stakeholders to translate use cases into technical solutions.
• Strengthen CI/CD, automation, code quality and secure software practices across the platform.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership, mentor engineers and influence standards and platform direction.
• Identify technical debt and delivery risks, and improve platform resilience and maintainability.
• Explore AI-assisted engineering opportunities to accelerate modernization.
