Commonwealth Bank is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the design and delivery of scalable data solutions. You will drive end-to-end data pipelines, curate datasets for dashboards, and automate data product lifecycles with a focus on secure, compliant data platforms.

You will mentor engineers, define data models and ontologies, and enable analytics across large-scale datasets with Python and SQL. The role emphasizes collaboration, reliability and data governance in a high-impact environment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in designing and implementing data pipelines and data platforms.
• Proficient in Python and SQL with experience in analytics-ready datasets.
• Experience with CI/CD and automation for data products.
• Exposure to MLOps, AI-driven automation or orchestrations is a plus.
• Led or mentored engineers, establishing engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable batch, streaming and analytical data pipelines.
• Transform raw data into trusted, reusable datasets for dashboards.
• Create curated data layers and semantic models for analytics.
• Automate the data lifecycle: ingestion, transformation, testing, deployment, monitoring.
• Develop agentic workflows coordinating data prep, quality validation, and dashboard updates.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Design data models, ontologies and data definitions.
• Implement data matching, entity resolution and data cleansing.
• Ensure data quality, observability and governance controls.
