Job summary

St Joseph’s Primary School is seeking a Spanish Teacher to deliver high-quality lessons, build students’ confidence in speaking and writing Spanish, and deepen cultural understanding. This temporary appointment replaces an employee on parental leave and leads to a return to the substantive position under the Fair Work Act 2009.

The role is based in Canberra with a salary range of AU$85,694 to AU$141,638 plus superannuation, determined by teaching service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education/Teaching or Master of Teaching is required.
• WWVP registration is required.
• TQI registration is required.
• Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead in Catholic Education, Canberra and Goulburn Policy is required.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver communicative, well-structured Spanish lessons.
• Develop students' speaking, reading, writing and listening skills in Spanish.
• Create a positive, inclusive learning environment and respond to diverse student needs.
• Use assessment and feedback to monitor progress and guide next steps.
• Collaborate with colleagues and families to support a strong languages culture.

About the Role

The Spanish Teacher delivers high-quality teaching and learning that engages, challenges, and supports students to develop confidence and fluency in Spanish. You will plan and deliver communicative, well-structured lessons that build students' skills in speaking, reading, writing, and listening, while deepening their understanding of the cultures and communities of the Spanish-speaking world. You will create a positive and inclusive learning environment, respond to the diverse needs and abilities of your students, and use assessment and feedback to monitor progress and guide next steps in their learning. Working collaboratively with colleagues and families, you will contribute to a strong languages culture where every student is supported to thrive.

This appointment is temporary to replace an employee who is on parental leave. The incumbent is entitled to return earlier to their substantive position in accordance with the Fair Work Act 2009.
