Job summary

Qantas Airways is building a new backend platform at our Adelaide Product Innovation Centre. As a Back-End Developer, you will lead architecture, delivery and development of robust systems powering our digital experiences. You will code, review, and ensure security, reliability and performance while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on engineering, scalable design, and accountability in a fast-paced, frontier technology environment in Adelaide.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in hands-on software engineering.
• Experience building high-traffic backend applications.
• Proficient with back-end technologies (Java, Spring / Spring Boot) and databases (PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
• Understanding of cloud-native development on AWS.
• Containerisation with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and Git.
• Observability/monitoring tools (Splunk, Datadog or similar).
• Strong focus on quality, clean code and continuous improvement.
• Knowledge of architectural concepts and cloud-based design.
• Willingness to take real accountability for the work.

As a Back-End Developer,you'llbe responsible forguiding and leading the architecture, delivery and development of the software systems that power our business unit. Ahands-on, highly skilled software developer with the experience todive into codeto deliver high quality, well-designed software. You willshareresponsibilityfor the quality of the software being built, including but not limitedto;achieving desired business outcomes, meeting reliability and performance expectations and safely managing security and data privacy concerns.

You’ll have:

• 3+yearsin a hands-on Software Engineering role
• Experience building high-traffic backend applications
• Working experience with back-end technologies (i.e Java, Spring / Spring Boot) and databases (e.g PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, etc)
• Understanding of cloud‑native development on platforms such as AWS, including deployment, scaling, and operational considerations
• Containerisation technology concepts, such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitHub Actions), version control (Git), and automated testing practices
• Experience using observability and monitoring tools (e.g. Splunk, Datadog, or similar) to support production systems
• A real passion for quality, cleancodeand continuous improvement
• An understanding of architectural concepts and cloud-based solution design
• Highly dedicated ethos - expected to take very real accountability for the workyou'redoing
• A test and learn mindset with curiosity,collaborationand care
• Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
• Experience with Adobe Experience Manager and Adobe Edge Delivery Services desirable
