Job summary

Malcolm Thompson Pumps in Sydney is seeking an experienced service professional to lead the Service Team as Service Supervisor, taking ownership of day-to-day operations across workshop and field service.

You’ll stay hands-on with pump servicing, fault finding and installation while developing the team, driving safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Job description

An exciting opportunity has opened up at Malcolm Thompson Pumps (MTP) for an experienced service professional to join our team as Service Supervisor.

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll take ownership of the day‑to‑day operations of our Service Team, coordinating workshop and field service activities while ensuring our customers receive high‑quality pump servicing, repairs and technical support.

You’ll work closely with technicians, customers and the broader branch team, balancing people leadership and workflow management with the opportunity to remain technically involved in pump servicing, fault finding, installation and commissioning.

For the right person, this role also offers genuine scope to develop and progress into the Service Manager position as your experience and capability grow.

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll take responsibility for coordinating the Service Team and ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard across both workshop and customer sites.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading, supporting and developing the Service Team
• Scheduling pump servicing, repairs and field service activities
• Managing workflow, labour and resources to meet customer timeframes
• Preparing and overseeing accurate and commercially sound service quotes
• Overseeing the installation and commissioning of pumps and pump systems on customer sites
• Coordinating field service technicians and subcontractors
• Providing hands‑on technical support and acting as an escalation point for complex pump faults and breakdowns
• Supporting root cause analysis and warranty claims
• Managing spare parts, consumables and service vehicle stock
• Ensuring team licences, certifications and competencies remain current
• Driving safety, quality and continuous improvement across workshop and field activities
• Building strong, long‑term relationships with customers

About You

You’ll bring a strong technical foundation and practical service experience, along with the ability to coordinate people, manage competing priorities and keep work moving.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• Demonstrated knowledge of pumps and pump servicing, including centrifugal, submersible or similar equipment
• A strong trade or technical service background with hands‑on service delivery experience
• Experience supervising, leading or coordinating technicians or service teams
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving capability
• The ability to read and interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings
• Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage competing service priorities
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• A practical approach to safety, quality and team leadership
