Job summary

The University of Adelaide invites applications for a 0.6 FTE, 6-month fixed-term role in the Student Wellbeing and Safety team based at Adelaide campus. You will work within the Triage service providing frontline mental health support to students in crisis or distress, with risk assessment and timely referral.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated crisis intervention skills, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a busy team in a university

Qualifications

• Demonstrated high‑level experience working in the mental health sector supporting individuals with mental health conditions.
• Experience in intake and assessment, including triage using appropriate risk assessment tools.
• Demonstrated crisis intervention skills and knowledge.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including empathy with distressed individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong skills in prioritising work in a pressured environment.
• Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA and/or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) or recognised specialist mental health nursing qualifications.

The Triage team provides frontline support to students who present in crisis or distress, are facing urgent mental health concerns, or are identified as having their wellbeing or safety at risk. Through expert triage and assessment of need and risk, the team ensures students receive timely, appropriate help when they need it most.

Taking a coordinated, student‑centered approach, the team identifies immediate needs, manages risk, and connects students with the right internal and external supports, promoting their safety, wellbeing, and success.

This role will report to the Senior Manager, Student Wellbeing and Safety. This role forms part of Student Wellbeing and Safety team within the Student Success Function and is aligned to the Student Experience and Success Portfolio within the University.

Experience
