Job summary

University of Adelaide is seeking a part-time, fixed-term position based in the Student Experience and Success Portfolio. The role supports the Triage team in crisis and distress situations, providing timely risk assessment and connection to appropriate supports.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated high-level experience working in the mental health sector supporting individuals with mental health conditions.
• Experience in intake and assessment, including triage using appropriate risk assessment tools.
• Demonstrated crisis intervention skills and knowledge.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with distressed individuals and those from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong skills in prioritizing work in a pressured environment.
• Eligibility to register with the Psychology Board of Australia through AHPRA and/or the AASW or recognised specialist qualifications in Mental Health Nursing is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline support to students in crisis or distress within the Triage team.

• Identify immediate needs, manage risk, and promote student safety and wellbeing.

• Salary range (HEO 7): $108,575 - $120,520 per annum (Pro Rata at 0.6 FTE) (plus 17%superannuation)

The Student Experience and Success (SES) Portfolio plays a key role in providing a connected, inclusive, and transformative experience for every student, ensuring they feel supported, engaged, and confident as they navigate university life and prepare for their future.

The Triage team provides frontline support to students who present in crisis or distress, are facing urgent mental health concerns, or are identified as having their wellbeing or safety at risk. Through expert triage and assessment of need and risk, the team ensures students receive timely, appropriate help when they need it most.

Taking a coordinated, student-centered approach, the team identifies immediate needs, manages risk, and connects students with the right internal and external supports, promoting their safety, wellbeing, and success.

This role will report to the Senior Manager, Student Wellbeing and Safety. This role forms part of Student Wellbeing and Safety team within the Student Success Function and is aligned to the Student Experience and Success Portfolio within the University.
