Job summary

AECOM in Australia is seeking a Technical Director to lead our Environment and Planning practice in NSW. You will set technical direction, build client partnerships and drive growth across renewable energy, transport, water and infrastructure projects.

You’ll chair environmental impact assessments, guide a NSW team, and mentor consultants while delivering complex approvals and shaping multi-disciplinary bids. A strong EIA background and REP progress are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering environmental projects in NSW and strong understanding of planning and approval pathways.
• Ability to assume Project Director responsibilities, managing scope, schedule, budget and risk.
• Demonstrated leadership with a track record of guiding teams and mentoring others.
• Strong technical foundation, ideally REP accreditation or progress toward it, with relevant tertiary qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Act as senior technical leader and strategic adviser to clients, providing clear, practical guidance across complex approval pathways.
• Take accountability for the performance, growth and ongoing development of the Sydney EIA team.
• Lead and deliver major projects from pursuit to completion, including shaping bids, winning work and positioning the team for what comes next.
• Mentor consultants and lift technical and commercial confidence across the group.
• Apply deep knowledge of State and Commonwealth EIA requirements while balancing risk, programme and client outcomes.
