Job summary

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the Rail & Metro team in Melbourne. You will work with engineers, drafters and project managers on design input, coordination and delivery across rail projects locally and nationally.

You will apply your structural software skills (MIDAS, Space Gass, Autodesk, Microstran), ensure codes and standards, produce reports, and collaborate to deliver quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• 6 years of design experience in rail infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated design experience using structural software.
• Engineering qualifications with a focus in Structural Engineering.
• Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards.
• Ability to work on own initiative and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Coordinating the structural design and documentation for rail projects locally and nationally.
• Undertaking structural design components using MIDAS, Space Gass, Autodesk and Microstran.
• Reviewing structural designs to meet technical standards and client/SMEC requirements.
• Producing engineering reports and supporting tender proposals.
• Collaborating with team members and stakeholders to ensure quality and timely delivery.

The Role

We are currently seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in Melbourne. Working with a specialist team of Engineers, Drafters and Project Managers, you will be responsible for technical design input, co-ordination and project delivery activities across rail infrastructure projects locally and nationally.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating the structural design and documentation for various rail projects locally and nationally
• Undertaking structural design components using relative software, including MIDAS, Space Gass, Autodesk and Microstran, to name a few.
• Reviewing structural designs, ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
• Production of engineering reports and supporting tender proposals
• Proactively collaborating with team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
• Actively contribute to the technical success of projects and the team

About You

• Relevant Engineering qualifications – with a focus in Structural Engineering
• 6 years’ design experience in rail infrastructure projects
• Demonstrated design experience using relevant Structural software
• Possesses project management and hands-on experience, encompassing administrative, commercial and technical aspects
• Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards
• Submit technical reports of a standard requiring minimal correction; and provide final review of reports
• Able to work on own initiative and in a team environment
