Job summary

SMEC, part of the SJ Group, is seeking a recent Graduate Structural Engineer to join the Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. You’ll be part of a high-impact group delivering major rail infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and specialists.

Our two-year Graduate Development Program accelerates growth with hands-on project exposure, mentoring, and structured learning across teams. You’ll gain real project experience from day one while building consulting skills.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience.

Key Responsibilities

About You

You’re a motivated Civil Engineering graduate who enjoys problem-solving, working in teams, and contributing to real-world projects.
