Job summary

SMEC invites applications for a Graduate Electrical Engineer in the Rail & Metro group, based in North Sydney. You’ll join a two-year GDP, delivering real rail and metro infrastructure work while receiving mentorship from senior engineers and technical specialists.

The program blends hands-on project experience with structured learning, workshops and cross-disciplinary exposure, fostering growth, collaboration, and consulting skills within the SJ Group network.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand how designs are implemented on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience.

The Role

We are seeking a recent Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in North Sydney.

Key responsibilities
