Job summary

SMEC invites a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate to join the Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. As a Graduate, you’ll contribute to major rail and metro infrastructure projects, part of a two-year GDP designed to accelerate your growth through hands-on project experience and structured learning.

You’ll benefit from mentoring from senior engineers and technical specialists, with exposure across teams and disciplines, while developing consulting skills and industry know‑how within the SJ

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Delivery support for real infrastructure projects from day one, contributing to design, analysis and documentation.
• Support design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to understand design implementation on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and project delivery milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards and tools through structured development and on‑the‑job experience.

The Role

We are seeking a recent Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our Rail & Metro team in North Sydney. Key responsibilities
