Job summary

SMEC in North Sydney is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering graduate to join the Rail & Metro team as part of the two-year Graduate Development Program (GDP). You'll work on major rail and metro infrastructure projects alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists.

The GDP blends hands-on project exposure with mentoring, structured learning and cross-disciplinary rotations, designed to accelerate your growth and build consulting skills in design, analysis and documentation.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Exposure to design tools such as AutoCAD or Civil 3D (12D or similar advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the delivery of real projects by supporting design development, including drawings, models and technical documentation.
• Assist with engineering calculations and analysis across areas such as roads, drainage or structures under guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in site visits and inspections to develop an understanding of how designs are implemented on live projects.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design inputs and support project delivery milestones.
• Learn and apply industry standards, tools and best practice through structured development and on-the-job experience.
