Job summary

Westpac is seeking a Senior Database Engineer - SQL Server to optimise and safeguard the bank’s SQL Server estate across on-premises and cloud. You will lead AI adoption in database operations, using analytics to predict issues, accelerate resolution and drive capacity, performance, cost and risk decisions.

The role requires 8+ years of hands-on experience, SQL Server 2016+ with SSIS/SBIRS/SSAS, and strong automation, cloud, security and compliance skills.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on database engineering experience.
• SQL Server 2016+ environments with SSIS, PBIRS, SSAS exposure.
• Strong HA/DR design, Always-On, clustering, backups and recovery.
• Automation via T-SQL and PowerShell; DevOps practices.
• AI/AIOps applied to database operations and predictive capacity.
• Power BI to develop baselines and trends for capacity/performance.
• Experience with Azure SQL and AWS RDS; cloud database ops.
• Security/compliance focus in regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Optimise and safeguard the bank's SQL Server estate across on-premises and cloud.
• Lead adoption of AI in database operations and analytics.
• Drive capacity, performance, cost and risk decisions with data insights.
• Collaborate across IT, security, and operations to implement improvements.
• Provide after-hours/on-call support during major incidents.
