Job summary

Westpac Group in Sydney is seeking a senior, hands-on AI Engineer to join the Chief AI Innovation Office within Data, Digital & AI. You will design, build, test, and operate AI capabilities to be safe, reliable and production-ready at enterprise scale.

You will lead through technical credibility, influence engineering standards, mentor engineers, and partner with product, platform, data, risk and security teams to scale AI responsibly from concept to production.

Qualifications

• Hands-on AI engineering experience in a complex enterprise environment.
• Proven track record delivering AI/LLM-enabled systems in production.
• Strong foundations in Python, APIs, cloud services, distributed systems and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and ship AI platforms and services at enterprise scale.
• Engineer LLM, retrieval-augmented generation, agents and orchestration with governance and observability.
• Move AI capabilities from experimentation to production with testing, deployment and monitoring.
• Elevate engineering standards and reusable patterns; mentor engineers and review designs.
