Job summary

Amazon Leo is seeking a Senior Aerospace Hardware Development Engineer to lead the solar array hardware design for next‑generation LEO spacecraft, from concept through qualification.

You will own modules, deployable wings, and interfaces, drive materials selection, CAD artifacts, and qualification campaigns, collaborating with power, structures, thermal, and manufacturing teams in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or above in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics or equivalent, or STEM experience.
• 5+ years of hardware development experience with leadership in design, analysis, and qualification.
• Experience with lightweight structures, deployable systems, or precision mechanical assemblies.
• Experience driving hardware from concept through build, test, and qualification.
• Hands-on fabrication, hardware builds, or lab testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, analysis, and qualification of solar array subsystems from concept to production readiness.
• Drive materials selection and qualification for lightweight array structures and encapsulants.
• Create CAD artifacts, schematics, ply schedules, and material selections.
• Develop validation campaigns including environmental testing and materials characterization.
• Perform structural, thermal, and durability analyses to verify margins.
• Lead engagements with suppliers and manufacturing partners.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on interfaces and integration.
• Lead design reviews and present status to leadership.
