Job summary

Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) in Melbourne seeks a Senior Rolling Stock Engineer to shape common standards and support safe, efficient rail operations across the ARTC network.

You will contribute to engineering standards, assess new rolling stock, and collaborate with industry bodies to harmonise practices, ensuring interoperability and reliability across Australia’s rail assets.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with professional registration.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
• Analytical, problem-solving and continuous improvement capability.
• Experience developing and managing engineering standards and documentation.
• Experience with multiple Rail Infrastructure Managers and operators is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Support assessment, approval and introduction of new and modified rolling stock and related vehicles.
• Contribute to rolling stock interface standards, procedures and documentation.
• Provide technical advice to customers, stakeholders and internal teams.
• Support national standardisation initiatives and interoperability efforts.
• Assist with engineering assessments, approvals and ICPs for Rail Maintenance Vehicles.
• Evaluate and approve ICPs for Rail Maintenance Vehicles operating on the ARTC network.
