Job summary

ARTC in Adelaide is seeking a Project Engineer – Rerailing to support the safe and efficient delivery of rerailing works on the national freight network. Based mainly at the Mile End office, the role blends project planning, technical support and site delivery with occasional interstate travel.

You will work with the Project Manager, contractors and internal teams to develop scopes, monitor performance and report risks.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience or exposure to engineering maintenance/construction in track, civil or structures.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to manage priorities in a structured way.
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement capability.
• A current Class C Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Support the development of scopes of work for delivery by contractors and internal resources.
• Provide reporting on workforce, plant and equipment to support project planning.
• Monitor safety performance of contractors and project resources.
• Review contractor performance against project plans and quality requirements.
• Review safety-critical documentation and provide feedback for improvement.
• Identify, monitor and report project risks.
• Collaborate with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders for successful delivery.

About The Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

About The Opportunity

Join ARTC and build your rail engineering career while contributing to the delivery of important rerailing projects across our interstate network. We are seeking a Project Engineer – Rerailing to support the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of our rerailing program across the ARTC national freight network. Based primarily at our Mile End office in Adelaide, this role combines project planning and technical support with site-based delivery activities. Infrequent and planned interstate travel will be required to support onsite works. This opportunity would suit an engineer with rail, civil, construction or maintenance experience, however we also welcome applications from early-career engineers looking to develop their technical and project delivery capability. On-the-job support and formal training will be provided to help you grow into the role. Working closely with the Project Manager, contractors, internal teams and key stakeholders, you will provide technical expertise and project support to help ensure rerailing works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project requirements. You will contribute to the development of scopes of work, monitor project and contractor performance, review safety-critical documentation and provide reporting on project risks, resources and delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development of scopes of work for delivery by contractors and internal resources.


• Provide reporting on workforce, plant and equipment requirements to support effective project planning and resourcing.


• Monitor and review the safety performance of contractors and project resources.


• Monitor contractor performance against project plans, quality requirements and value-for-money expectations.


• Review safety-critical contractor documentation and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.


• Assist with the identification, monitoring and reporting of project risks.


• Work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.


• Promote compliance with ARTC safety, people and workplace policies and procedures.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline, or relevant industry experience.


• Experience or exposure to engineering maintenance, construction or design within track, civil or structures environments would be highly regarded.


• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage priorities in a structured and well-planned manner.


• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.


• Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving capability.


• A commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.


• A current Class C Driver's Licence.
