Job summary

Ornata Technologies, based in Richmond/Melbourne, is seeking a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to own embedded and edge software for autonomous tractors. You will design safe, fault-tolerant systems and work with operators and the CTO to advance the autonomy stack.

You will develop high-reliability software for edge devices, contribute to localisation, path planning, perception, and communication with cloud services, and lead hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and field deployments.

Qualifications

5+ years in embedded systems, robotics, or autonomous platforms.
Strong C/C++ skills on microcontrollers; proficient in Python.
Deep understanding of localisation, path planning, and control theory.
Experience with safety-critical or fault-tolerant systems.
Practical experience with HIL testing and automated validation frameworks.
Comfort with Linux-based edge devices and distributed systems.
Experience with LiDAR/camera perception and sensor fusion.
Degree in Robotics, Computer, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering.

Responsibilities

Design and implement safety systems, failsafes, and redundancy.
Develop reliable edge software on microcontrollers and devices.
Contribute to localisation, path planning, and control across terrain.
Design perception pipelines using LiDAR and cameras, with sensor fusion.
Build telemetry and command pipelines between field hardware and cloud services.
Lead HIL testing and validation with real sensors and actuators.
Implement logging, telemetry, and on‑device diagnostics.
