Job summary

NXTGEN Industries is seeking a Senior Robotics Engineer to lead design, development, and field deployment of autonomous inspection platforms across Australia. The role spans mechanical integration, embedded interfaces, and mission software with direct exposure to site deployments.

Requirements include 5+ years in robotics, deep ROS 2 and C++ expertise, and experience with sensor suites and SLAM in GPS-denied environments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on robotics engineering experience in applied or industrial settings.
• Deep proficiency with ROS 2 and C++ for real-time robot control.
• Experience with sensor integration (LiDAR, RGB-D, IMU, thermal).
• Experience with SLAM, localisation, and navigation in GPS-denied or unstructured environments.
• Exposure to field deployment in industrial or infrastructure environments.
• Strong problem-solving instincts — you're on-site with a multimeter as you are reviewing a PR.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement robot autonomy stacks using ROS 2 for infrastructure inspection missions
• Integrate and calibrate multi-modal sensor suites: cameras, LiDAR, thermal, and ultrasonic
• Develop and validate navigation, localisation, and mission execution modules for unstructured environments
• Lead field deployments alongside operations teams — commissioning, troubleshooting, and iterating on-site
• Contribute to hardware selection and mechanical integration decisions with the systems team
• Define testing frameworks and acceptance criteria for autonomous systems in safety-critical contexts
