Job description

About The Company

Seeing Machines is a global industry leader in computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies that enable machines to see, understand, and assist people. On a mission to reduce transport fatalities to zero, Seeing Machines develops advanced embedded AI platforms that process human behavioral and environmental data in real time across automotive, commercial fleet, aviation, rail, off-road, and robotics applications. By combining over two decades of human factors research with cutting-edge optical sensing, deep learning, and embedded processing, the company delivers mission-critical safety and autonomous solutions trusted by world-leading OEMs and industrial partners globally.

Position Summary

We are seeking a versatile and proactive Senior Robotics Engineer to drive customer‑facing robotics deployments and field integrations. This role demands a strong builder mindset; someone who thrives in high‑ambiguity environments, pushes into the unknown, and takes complete ownership of building physical systems from concept to fully functional operational prototypes. Combining hands‑on physical robot engineering with solid AI and software development capabilities, you will interface directly with external clients and internal stakeholders to translate real‑world requirements into robust, high‑performance robotic solutions.

Key Responsibilities
Innovation & Builder Mindset
  • Pioneer solutions in unscripted and unstructured problem spaces where off‑the‑shelf answers do not exist, rapidly iterating on physical prototypes to prove technical feasibility.
  • Take complete ownership of end‑to‑end engineering tasks, actively seeking out and eliminating technical roadblocks.
  • Design, write, and maintain robust, high‑performance software and AI algorithms (perception, control, motion planning, and human‑robot interaction) on embedded physical robotic hardware.
Field Deployment & Hands‑on Robotics
  • Lead hands‑on integration, debugging, field testing, and deployment of physical robotic platforms and autonomous hardware systems in real‑world customer environments.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware‑in‑the‑loop, sensor calibration, and physical system failure modes directly in live operational settings.
Customer Engagement & Technical Communication
  • Serve as a key customer‑facing technical interface, gathering operational requirements and presenting complex technical concepts, capabilities, and system performance metrics clearly to client stakeholders and site operators.
  • Translate customer operational challenges into actionable software, AI, and hardware requirements.
Background, Skills, Experience And Qualifications
Education / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Computer Vision, or Autonomous Systems preferred.
Professional Experience
  • Hands‑on Robotics (Essential): Demonstrable experience building, configuring, debugging, and running physical robots in real‑world or lab‑to‑field settings.
  • Builder Mindset (Essential): Proven track record of self‑directed problem solving in ambiguous domains, pushing into unknown technical spaces, and rapidly building functional hardware/software prototypes.
  • Solid AI & Software Skills: Proficiency in C++ and Python, strong foundation in ROS/ROS2, containerization (Docker), Git, and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) for vision/perception tasks. Experience with CUDA, TensorRT and embedding experience is a massive plus.
  • Customer Communication: Proven ability to communicate clearly, present technical solutions, and build trust with external clients, multidisciplinary engineers, and executive stakeholders.

We are a global company headquartered in Australia, an industry leader in computer vision technologies which enable machines to see, understand and assist people.

Our machine learning vision platform has the know‑how to deliver real‑time understanding of drivers through Artificial Intelligence (AI) analysis of heads, faces and eyes. This insight enables Driver Monitoring Systems (DMS), which monitors driver/operator identification and attention to prevent fatalities.
