Job summary

Andromeda Robotics Operations Pty in Victoria seeks an Embedded Linux/Kernel Engineer to own the Abi Linux platform, including kernel-adjacent tasks and hardware interfaces. You’ll work across the stack with firmware, electrical, autonomy, AI, and product teams to ensure reliable robot platforms and safe upgrades.

You’ll be hands-on with real hardware, debugging complex issues, and shaping provisioning, OTA updates, and deployment workflows for next‑generation robots.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or equivalent.
• 3–6 years of relevant experience in embedded Linux, systems programming, robotics software, platform software, or related area.
• Strong Linux fundamentals, including debugging across userspace, services, device interfaces, and OS config.
• Experience working close to hardware on embedded or robotics systems.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Rust, or Python for systems programming.
• Familiarity with kernel drivers, boot processes, device trees, BSPs, networking, storage, or hardware interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve the Linux platform that powers Abi, including OS-level behavior, kernel-adjacent integration points, hardware interfaces, and software deployment.
• Investigate and resolve low-level system issues across boot, provisioning, upgrades, peripherals, networking, storage, and device stability.
• Support bring-up and integration of embedded hardware and compute platforms, including device trees, drivers, boot config, vendor constraints, and interface definitions for next-gen robots.
• Improve provisioning, flashing, and deployment flows for engineers, manufacturing, and field operations.
• Collaborate with firmware, electrical, autonomy, AI, and product teams to define clean hardware-software interfaces.
• Contribute to OS and platform upgrade work including kernel, JetPack, ROS, and platform dependencies.
• Build or improve tooling, logging, and diagnostics for low-level issues in dev or hardware environments.
• Support validation and testing of platform changes on real robots, including regression testing and hardware-in-the-loop workflows.
• Produce clear technical documentation for setup, deployment, debugging and recovery procedures.
• Raise the team’s depth in embedded Linux and platform engineering through reviews, pairing, and knowledge-sharing.
