City Facilities Management in Melbourne seeks a Lead Technical RHVAC Mechanic to be the on-site technical resource for complex diagnostics and critical component replacements. You will oversee commissioning, upgrades, and problem solving across supermarket RHVAC installations.

The role requires travelling across the state to meet job demand, bringing deep expertise and leadership to the field team. Strong customer-focused communication is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of hands-on RHVAC diagnostics experience.
• Deep understanding of VRF/VRV, CO2 systems, and control schematics.
• Proven ability to lead on-site technical efforts and mentor technicians.
• Licences: Refrigerant Handling, Restricted Electrical; full driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve complex RHVAC system failures beyond standard techs.
• Perform precision component replacements (compressors, VSDs, valves, control boards).
• Oversee commissioning and fault finding for new or retrofitted supermarket systems.
• Plan and execute system upgrades, retrofits and modernisations.
• Act as on-site senior technical authority and coach junior staff.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an elite Lead Technical RHVAC Mechanic to serve as our team’s ultimate technical resource. In this role, you won't just run standard maintenance routes—you will be the go-to specialist responsible for solving complex system diagnostics, executing critical component replacements, and overseeing advanced commissioning and upgrades

This is a State based role which will require a large amount of travel depending on job demand.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex, ongoing RHVAC system failures that standard field technicians cannot solve.
• Precision Replacements: Execute technical component replacements (compressors, variable speed drives, specialised valves, and electronic control boards).
• Commissioning & Fault Finding: Oversee the commissioning of newly installed or retrofitted systems, ensuring optimal efficiency and resolving initial setup faults.
• System Upgrades: Plan and execute comprehensive RHVAC system upgrades, retrofits, and modernisations of Supermarket Systems.
• Technical Mentorship: Act as the senior technical authority on-site, guiding and upskilling field mechanics.

To be considered for this role:

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in complex RHVAC diagnostics in supermarket refrigeration
• Expertise: Deep understanding of advanced controls, electrical schematics, refrigeration cycles, and modern variable refrigerant flow (VRF/VRV) systems.
• Problem-Solving: Exceptional critical thinking skills with a reputation for solving "unsolvable" system issues.
• An understanding of CO2 systemsand refrigeration controls; Emerson, Danfoss and Alerton
• Leadership: Strong communication skills and a willingness to coach other technicians.
• Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.
• Refrigerant Handling Licence & Restricted Electrical Licence
• Current Driver’s Licence
• Scissor/ Elevate Work Platform licence – highly regarded.
