Job summary

City FM Australia is seeking an elite Lead Technical RHVAC Mechanic to be the go-to specialist for complex diagnostics, component replacements, and commissioning. This state-based role requires extensive travel to service supermarket installations.

You will lead on-site technical initiatives, mentor field mechanics, and ensure optimal system performance across diverse sites. A strong track record in RHVAC with CO2 systems is essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years hands-on RHVAC diagnostics in supermarket refrigeration.
• Deep understanding of advanced controls and electrical schematics.
• Proven problem-solving skills to tackle complex system issues.
• Experience with CO2 systems and refrigeration controls; familiarity with Emerson, Danfoss, Alerton.
• Leadership qualities with ability to coach technicians.
• Valid Refrigerant Handling Licence & Restricted Electrical Licence.
• Current Driver’s Licence; Scissor/Elevating Work Platform licence is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Advanced Troubleshooting: diagnose and resolve complex RHVAC failures.
• Precision Replacements: replace compressors, VSDs, valves, control boards.
• Commissioning & Fault Finding: oversee commissioning and initial fault resolution.
• System Upgrades: plan/execute upgrades and retrofits for supermarket systems.
• Technical Mentorship: act as senior technical lead on-site and upskill team.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an elite Lead Technical RHVAC Mechanic to serve as our team’s ultimate technical resource. In this role, you won't just run standard maintenance routes—you will be the go-to specialist responsible for solving complex system diagnostics, executing critical component replacements, and overseeing advanced commissioning and upgrades

This is a State based role which will require a large amount of travel depending on job demand.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex, ongoing RHVAC system failures that standard field technicians cannot solve.


• Precision Replacements: Execute technical component replacements (compressors, variable speed drives, specialised valves, and electronic control boards).


• Commissioning & Fault Finding: Oversee the commissioning of newly installed or retrofitted systems, ensuring optimal efficiency and resolving initial setup faults.


• System Upgrades: Plan and execute comprehensive RHVAC system upgrades, retrofits, and modernisations of Supermarket Systems.


• Technical Mentorship: Act as the senior technical authority on-site, guiding and upskilling field mechanics.

To be considered for this role:

• Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in complex RHVAC diagnostics in supermarket refrigeration


• Expertise: Deep understanding of advanced controls, electrical schematics, refrigeration cycles, and modern variable refrigerant flow (VRF/VRV) systems.


• Problem-Solving: Exceptional critical thinking skills with a reputation for solving \"unsolvable\" system issues.


• An understanding of CO2 systemsand refrigeration controls; Emerson, Danfoss and Alerton


• Leadership: Strong communication skills and a willingness to coach other technicians.


• Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer satisfaction.


• Refrigerant Handling Licence & Restricted Electrical Licence


• Current Driver’s Licence


• Scissor/ Elevate Work Platform licence – highly regarded.
