Job summary

HITACHI ENERGY AUSTRALIA PTY LTD seeks an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee complex power generation and transmission projects from concept through commissioning. You will lead technical execution, mentor teams, and ensure delivery within scope, budget and schedule.

You will coordinate with procurement, manufacturing and clients, manage risks and resources, and present progress to senior management. Travel to project sites and adherence to safety standards are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 8–10+ years in project engineering within power generation, transmission, or distribution.
• Proven leadership in a senior engineering role with complex project delivery.
• In-depth knowledge of power systems, generation technologies, substations, and grid infrastructure.
• PM methodologies; PMP certification desirable.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills; able to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the technical execution of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and policies.
• Develop and review engineering designs, specifications and technical documentation, providing mentorship to the project team.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders (clients, contractors, suppliers).
• Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Manage project schedules, budgets and resources; address deviations and concerns.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients; provide updates and build relationships.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and handover ensuring systems meet performance requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and project execution.
• Prepare and present technical reports and progress summaries to senior management.
• Ensure adherence to health, safety and environmental regulations and best practices.
