Job summary

Hitachi Energy Australia Pty Ltd in Brisbane is seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee complex power generation and transmission projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring delivery within scope, budget and schedule.

You will lead technical execution, develop designs and documentation, mentor team members, coordinate with procurement, manufacturing and clients, manage risk, schedule, and budgets, and act as the primary technical contact with clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8–10 years in project engineering within power generation/transmission.
• PMP or equivalent certification is desirable.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee and manage complex power generation and transmission projects within HITACHI ENERGY AUSTRALIA PTY LTD. This role involves leading technical aspects of projects from conceptual design through to commissioning, ensuring successful delivery within scope, budget, and schedule.

How you'll make an impact

Lead and manage the technical execution of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and company policies.

Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation, providing expert guidance and mentorship to project team members.

Coordinate and collaborate with internal departments (e.g., procurement, manufacturing, quality assurance) and external stakeholders (e.g., clients, contractors, suppliers).

Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project success and minimize potential issues.

Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources effectively, identifying and addressing any deviations or concerns.

Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, providing updates, and building strong client relationships.

Oversee the testing, commissioning, and handover phases of projects, ensuring all systems are fully functional and meet performance requirements.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes and project execution methodologies.

Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, and progress summaries to senior management and stakeholders.

Ensure adherence to all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.

Your background

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project engineering within the power generation, transmission, or distribution industry.

Proven experience in a leadership or senior engineering role, with a strong track record of successfully delivering complex projects.

In-depth knowledge of power systems, including generation technologies (e.g., renewables, thermal), substations, and grid infrastructure.

Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools. PMP certification is highly desirable.

Strong understanding of relevant Australian and international engineering standards and regulations.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
