Job summary

HITACHI ENERGY AUSTRALIA PTY LTD seeks an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee complex power generation and transmission projects from concept through commissioning. You will lead technical execution, mentor teams, and ensure delivery within scope, budget and schedule.

You will coordinate with procurement, manufacturing and clients, manage risks and resources, and present progress to senior management. Travel to project sites and adherence to safety standards are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 8–10+ years in project engineering within power generation, transmission, or distribution.
• Proven leadership in a senior engineering role with complex project delivery.
• In-depth knowledge of power systems, generation technologies, substations, and grid infrastructure.
• PM methodologies; PMP certification desirable.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills; able to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
• Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in project engineering within the power generation, transmission, or distribution industry.
• Proven experience in a leadership or senior engineering role, with a strong track record of successfully delivering complex projects.
• In-depth knowledge of power systems, including generation technologies (e.g., renewables, thermal), substations, and grid infrastructure.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools. PMP certification is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of relevant Australian and international engineering standards and regulations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving technical challenges.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
