Job summary

Transport For NSW seeks a Project Engineer to lead planning, delivery, and governance of road and infrastructure projects in Hay, NSW. The role demands strong leadership, coordination with field teams, and adherence to safety and environmental standards. Relocation considerations may apply.

You must hold a four-year Civil Engineering degree, be willing to travel, and possess a current Australian driver’s licence to operate across sites and outside standard hours.

Qualifications

• Four-year Civil Engineering or equivalent degree.
• Knowledge of road and traffic infrastructure materials, equipment, construction methods, and maintenance practices.
• Experience working with or managing direct-control workforces in the delivery of construction and maintenance activities.
• Understanding of tendering, contract administration, procurement processes, and contractor management.
• A current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel and work outside normal working hours when required.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage planning, execution, and delivery of projects within time, budget, scope, and quality.
• Develop and manage project plans, budgets, schedules, and technical docs.
• Coordinate project delivery teams, contractors, consultants, and service providers.
• Lead WHS and environmental strategies with governance, reporting, and risk management.
• Monitor performance, risks, resources, and compliance with safety and QA standards.
• Build stakeholder relationships and provide technical advice on road safety and assets.

In this role, you'll:

• Lead and manage the safe, efficient, and effective planning, execution, and delivery of projects and programs, ensuring completion within agreed timeframes, budgets, quality standards, and scope requirements while meeting client and customer expectations


• Develop and manage project plans, budgets, schedules, and technical documentation, including project briefs, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documentation


• Coordinate and oversee project delivery teams, contractors, consultants, and service providers, ensuring effective collaboration and high-quality outcomes throughout the project lifecycle


• Lead the development and execution of WHS and environmental strategies, establishing robust governance, reporting, and risk management practices that drive safe project outcomes and environmental stewardship


• Monitor project performance, risks, resources, financials, and compliance requirements, maintaining strong standards of safety, environmental management, and quality assurance


• Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, providing technical advice and contributing to road safety, asset management, network efficiency, and a customer-focused team culture.

Office location: Hay, NSW, requirement to live within a reasonable distance of Hay. Relocation expenses may be considered pending approvals.

About You

Proven experience in managing the planning with experience delivering road, infrastructure, construction, or maintenance projects.

You have strong technical knowledge, communicate effectively, and can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You work well with field teams, contractors, service providers, and stakeholders, and are committed to delivering safe, practical, and cost-effective outcomes for customers and communities.

To succeed in this role, you will have:
