Job summary

Transport for NSW is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead and deliver road infrastructure projects and maintenance programs across Central West NSW. You will plan, schedule, coordinate delivery, review information, and develop plans to support safe, on-time, on-budget outcomes.

You will manage contracts, procurement, and stakeholder relationships, mentor project engineers, and promote a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• Four-year civil/structural engineering degree (or equivalent).
• Current Australian driver’s licence and willingness to travel.
• Experience planning and delivering road infrastructure projects and maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of project management, procurement, tendering and contract administration.
• Proven leadership of project teams and diverse workforces.

Job description

You’re looking to embed yourself in projects of different sizes and become part of a team that’s shaping the landscape across NSW.

Your skills will be instrumental in designing and delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance mobility, sustainability, and safety for millions of people.

In this role, you'll:

Lead teams to deliver infrastructure projects, maintenance programs, and contracts safely, on time, within budget, and to a high standard. You will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating project activities, reviewing project information, and developing delivery plans that support efficient operations and positive customer outcomes.

The Senior Project Engineer will also be responsible for:

• Leading and delivering projects and programs safely, efficiently and effectively to achieve agreed time, cost, quality and scope outcomes while meeting customer and stakeholder requirements.
• Managing customer communication, resolving issues promptly, and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships throughout project delivery.
• Developing project briefs and coordinating contractors and internal service providers to ensure successful project planning and delivery.
• Administering contracts, monitoring project performance, and implementing systems, processes and reporting to support WHS and environmental compliance.
• Leading and developing diverse, high-performing teams by promoting a strong safety culture, encouraging collaboration, supporting wellbeing, and building team capability.

This is an ongoing full-time role located at either Orange or Bowenfels.

The position involves project delivery, site work and travel across Central West NSW. On occasion you may be required to work away from home to deliver projects outside a reasonable travel distance. It is expected you will live centrally within the region, working out of the depot in either Orange or Bowenfels (Lithgow).

TfNSW take the WH&S and the management of fatigue of our employees seriously therefore to be successful in this role it is a requirement that you must reside within 75 kms driving distance from your identified depot.

About you

You have a four‑year civil/structural engineering degree (or equivalent overseas qualification), a current Australian driver’s licence, and a willingness to travel and work outside normal business hours when required.

You have experience planning and delivering road infrastructure projects and maintenance programs, with strong knowledge of project management, procurement, tendering processes and contract administration.

You possess strong technical expertise in road infrastructure construction and maintenance, including pavement design, materials, equipment and construction methodologies.

You have proven leadership experience managing project teams and labour workforces, mentoring Project Engineers, prioritising workloads and ensuring effective resource utilisation.

You have excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build productive relationships and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including local communities.

Experience working within TfNSW systems, governance requirements and procurement frameworks will be highly regarded.
