Job summary

Heat and Control Pty Ltd in Brisbane seeks a Senior Project Engineer to lead major capital equipment projects, guiding design teams and coordinating with customers to deliver world-class food processing solutions. You will own the technical direction and drive projects from concept to commissioning with a global footprint.

You will manage 3D design in Inventor, 2D drawings in AutoCAD, sizing components, reviewing specs, and collaborating across design, manufacturing, and service teams.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10–15 years experience delivering engineered projects within the Food, Dairy, FMCG, or related manufacturing industries.
• At least 6 years of hands-on design experience with 3D modelling and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
• Experience in food processing equipment is highly desirable, but strong analytical ability is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead teams of 1–5 mechanical design engineers on component specifications, equipment sizing, and detailed engineering requirements.
• Manage 3D equipment design using Autodesk Inventor and oversee development of industrial food processing and packaging equipment models.
• Manage 2D drafting activities including layouts, installation drawings, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams using AutoCAD.
• Review customer specifications, commercial documents, and internal standards to define project scope.
• Organise and contribute to peer review meetings, including Risk Assessment generation and validation.
• Size mechanical and powertrain components such as shafts, bearings, gearboxes, sprockets and drives.
• Size heat transfer and fluid flow components including pumps, valves, burners, and heat exchangers.
• Specify purchased components including sensors, switches, and other critical parts.
• Monitor design and drawing release schedules to prevent project delays and maintain momentum.
• Support fabrication within our fully equipped manufacturing facility, including machining, sheet metal, laser cutting, and welding.
• Work alongside our field service team to support installation, commissioning, and equipment start-ups.
• Attend site visits to review equipment during construction and commissioning.
• Travel occasionally to customer facilities for technical meetings and troubleshooting.

Your Impact

As the primary technical authority for your projects, you will:

Lead teams of 1–5 mechanical design engineers on component specifications, equipment sizing, and detailed engineering requirements.

Manage 3D equipment design using Autodesk Inventor and oversee the development of industrial food processing and packaging equipment models.

Manage 2D drafting activities including equipment layouts, installation drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P\&IDs), and process flow diagrams using AutoCAD.

Review customer specifications, commercial documents, and internal standards to clearly define project scope.

Organise and contribute to peer review meetings, including Risk Assessment generation and validation.

Size mechanical and powertrain components such as shafts, bearings, gearboxes, sprockets, and drives.

About You

You are a confident technical leader with a proven ability to bring complex engineering projects to life. To succeed, you’ll bring:

A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

10–15 years' experience delivering engineered projects within the Food, Dairy, FMCG, or related manufacturing industries.

At least 6 years of hands‑on design experience with 3D modelling and AutoCAD.

Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.

Experience in food processing equipment — highly desirable, but strong analytical ability is essential.

SAP experience — advantageous.

Excellent communication skills, exceptional stakeholder management, and the ability to guide teams with clarity and confidence.
