Job summary

Bendigo Bank is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across the Wealth domain, shaping long-term architectures for secure, scalable systems. You will bridge business strategy and engineering, guiding cross-squad initiatives including ASX CHESS integrations, while mentoring engineers and driving best practices in testing, security, and CI/CD.

Qualifications

• Proven ability in software architecture and large-scale platform evolution.
• Hands-on engineering across COBOL, .NET, Java and SQL.
• Strong knowledge of wealth operations including leveraged margin lending and fund management.
• Familiarity with market connectivity protocols, clearing and settlement operations (ASX CHESS).
• Experience translating business strategy into robust technical solutions and mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of core systems for Leveraged Margin Lending and Sandhurst Trustees Fund Management.
• Shape technical direction by modularising, decoupling and defining strong interface contracts.
• Act as the primary technical translator bridging wealth concepts and engineering architectures.
• Promote and embed testing, observability, security, performance and CI/CD practices.
• Uplift engineering quality by reducing technical debt across core processes, APIs and applications.
• Mentor and coach engineers at all levels to foster technical excellence.
