The Platform Engineer – Service Mesh leads the rollout of Istio and API gateway, owning Helm charts and standards for a large Kubernetes estate, and mentoring engineers across levels.

You will shape identity, traffic and security standards, onboard teams to the mesh, and automate delivery with GitOps while building observability across the gateway

Qualifications

• Five or more years in a large corporate or enterprise environment.
• Experience with Istio, Envoy and mTLS in production.
• Expert Helm skills at scale.
• Strong Kubernetes and Docker networking knowledge.
• Infrastructure as Code with Terraform at scale.
• Experience building CI/CD and DevSecOps in a corporate setting.
• Proficiency in Golang and Python for agentic workflows.
• Capability to architect cloud solutions across detail and big picture.
• Clear communication and mentoring across levels.

Responsibilities

• Deliver large-scale Helm changes to gateway, service mesh and Kubernetes resources across many teams, safely, repeatably and without disrupting consumers.
• Build and operate the enterprise API gateway and service mesh as a shared platform that other engineering teams depend on.
• Set clear standards for identity, traffic and security so every team builds on the same secure defaults.
• Onboard application teams to the mesh, making adoption simple, safe and repeatable.
• Migrate live API traffic onto the enterprise gateway across many teams without downtime.
• Automate platform delivery through GitOps pipelines so every change is reviewed, versioned and reversible.
• Design and implement observability for the gateway and mesh, spanning metrics, logging, tracing and alerting.
• Drive continuous improvement across platform tooling, processes and ways of working.
