Job summary

Binnies Australia is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead water and wastewater projects from Perth or Brisbane. You will drive mechanical design, oversee pumping, treatment and piping systems, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on design leadership, risk management, and client-facing responsibilities, with opportunities to mentor junior engineers and contribute to project delivery across consulting, design and construct scopes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 8+ years water/wastewater mechanical design experience with leadership of design packages.
• Delivery of treatment plant or pump station designs including equipment selection and vendor interfaces.
• Ability to undertake and critically review engineering calculations and documentation, manage technical risk.
• Experience managing package scope, budgets, programme and technical reviews; clear client communications.

Responsibilities

• Define mechanical scope, design basis, deliverables, interfaces, resources and budget.
• Lead equipment selection and mechanical design for pumping, treatment, chemical dosing, aeration, sludge handling and pipework systems.
• Prepare and review pump duty and system calculations, equipment specs, valve schedules, layouts and pipework designs.
• Direct designers and engineers; allocate work; check outputs and resolve interfaces with other teams.
• Plan brownfield tie-ins and staged upgrades with operators and contractors.
• Lead mechanical input to safety in design and HAZOP reviews.
• Manage technical interfaces with suppliers and contractors; evaluate bids and vendor submissions.
• Support factory and site testing, installation inspections, commissioning and defect resolution.
• Prepare proposal scopes and fee estimates; build client relationships and mentor engineers.
