Job summary

Binnies Australia is seeking a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support mechanical design for water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and pipework in Brisbane or Perth.

You will build technical capability through supervised project delivery, performing calculations, preparing data sheets, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams. Travel to sites may be required as projects progress.

Qualifications

• Must have degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Practical water/wastewater sector experience required; academic projects alone do not qualify.
• Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and read engineering drawings & P&IDs.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, asset records and vendor information; assist with site surveys and condition assessments.
• Undertake supervised calculations for pipework losses, pump duties and equipment sizing; document assumptions and sources.
• Assist with selection and specification of pumps, valves, screens, blowers, chemical dosing and sludge equipment for projects.
• Prepare equipment data sheets, valve/equipment schedules, specs and drawing mark-ups; maintain alignment with process duties.
• Assist CAD and BIM designers with layouts and pipework arrangements, ensuring maintenance access and safe operation.
• Coordinate interfaces with process, civil, structural, electrical and control engineers; record actions and respond to comments.
• Support vendor document reviews, technical comparisons and construction queries; attend inspections or site testing as required.
• Participate in safety in design and project reviews; keep calculations and documents controlled and report progress or delays.
